Sweden's Niklas Edin was defeated 9-6 by Hayato Sato of Sapporo, one of the many young Japanese teams that have been competing on the International tour all season. Sato spent September in southern Ontario, competing in four tournaments reaching the quarterfinals at the Invitation Valleyfield in Quebec. A great experience for the young team, and a big win to open the Karuiizawa International where four teams reach the playoff round. In the third match of the opening draw, Kotaro Noguchi of Sendai-shi, Japan won 9-5 over Yuun Ishimura of Aomori, Japan. In their next game, Gushue plays Kohsuke Hirata (Kitami, Japan) on Friday evening (4:30 am Newfoundland Time) and Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, Japan) on Saturday afternoon (12:30 am Sunday Newfoundland Time). |
