By: Cameron Sallaj The Olympic gold medalists Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner of Italy are back in action this week for the first time since 2022. Despite this, the team is showing no signs of rust, continuing their unbeaten run that began in Beijing. Starting in Group A, the Italian duo got off to a strong start in the championship, cruising to victory in games against Finland, Germany, Korea and Denmark. They then faced Canada where they trailed the entire game, but managed to steal in both the seventh and eight ends to keep their streak alive. Into the second half of the championship, Constantini and Mosaner beat Scotland on Tuesday before taking two more wins against China and Sweden on Wednesday. This perfect 8-0 record was enough to clinch them the bye to the semifinal round, guaranteeing they will play for a medal at this year's World Championship. Also clinching playoff spots on Wednesday were Canada's Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant and Scotland's Jenn Dodds and Bruce Mouat. Canada fended off China 9-4 to improve to 7-1 while Scotland downed Germany 7-1 in six ends. Both teams will meet tomorrow with the winner taking the second seed from the pool. Suffering their third loss to the Italians, Sweden's Anna Hasselborg and Oskar Eriksson are now eliminated from the championship and will have no shot at a second world title. With Olympic points still to play for, however, they will be looking for a win in their final game against Finland to qualify their country for Milano-Cortina 2026. |
