By: Cameron Sallaj After suffering their first loss at the hands of Italy's Olympic gold medalists on Monday, Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant got back into the win column on Tuesday with a strong performance against Korea. It was a good start for the Canadians who never trailed throughout the game, taking a two in the first end. This was matched by the Koreans who leveled the score with their own pair in the second. Another end controlled by Canada allowed them to tack three points on the board in three, increasing their lead to 5-2. Fighting back, Korea's pair of Kim Kyeong-ae and Seong Ji-hoon got two more in the fourth to keep things close. Coming back in the fifth, Canada reestablished their three-point lead with another multi-point end, continuing to lead. Once again, though, Korea managed two of their own in the sixth on their power play, bringing the game within one. Having controlled the entirety of the match, Canada put the final nail in the coffin with a four spot on their power play in the seventh, defeating Korea 11-6 to move one game closer to the playoff round. A perfect start to the championship saw Canada's Alberta based duo pick up wins over Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands to climb to 4-0. On Monday, however, they suffered their first loss against Olympic gold medalists Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner of Italy, giving up steals in both seven and eight. Improving to 5-1, Canada currently sits tied for second in the Group A standings with Sweden's Anna Hasselborg and Oskar Eriksson. Constantini and Mosaner lead the pool with an unblemished 6-0 run while Finland and Scotland sit one game back at 4-2. Next up for Peterman and Gallant is the Finnish duo of Lotta Immonen and Markus Sipila Wednesday morning before meeting China's Han Yu and Wang Zhiyu in the evening. Their final round robin game will be against Scotland in a match that could determine the final playoff teams. Also, up for grabs at the World Mixed Doubles Championship are Olympic qualification points to qualify countries for Milano-Cortina. A playoff appearance by Peterman and Gallant will be enough to earn themselves a spot at the Games. |
