This will mark the second time the city has hosted these two championships, having previously welcomed them in 2022. In the women's field, Margie Smith leads her experienced team of Norma O'Leary, Shelly Kinney, and Shelly Kosal. For Smith, the 2026 National Championship win was her tenth, while it was the seventh for O'Leary, the second for Kinney, and the ninth for Kosal. Their extensive world championship experience of the team will serve them well against a tough international field. On the men's side, Mike Farbelow and his team of Rich Ruohonen, Bill Stopera, and Darren Lehto have represented the country at this event for the past two years, earning silver in 2024 and bronze in 2025. After another convincing run at the USA Curling Senior Nationals, the team arrives in Switzerland looking to secure the top spot on the podium. Ruohonen has had a particularly remarkable season--not only did he win the Senior Nationals, he was the Alternate on Team Casper and was part of Team USA at the 2026 Olympic Games. "USA Curling looks forward to watching Team Farbelow and Team Smith wear the red, white, and blue at this World Curling Event," said Dean Gemmell, CEO of USA Curling. "The members of both teams have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to curling at the elite level, and we know they will be excellent representatives of our country and the national organization." The ACE & Company World Senior Championships features elite-level play and celebrates the international connections of curlers who have competed at the highest levels throughout their lives. Fans can follow the progress of Teams Smith and Farbelow on the World Curling website, with updates on the USA Curling social media channels. |
