Bottcher wins Saville Shootout
![]() Brendan Bottcher and his Calgary-based foursome won 4-2 over Catlin Schneider (Victoria, BC) in Monday's Final at the Saville Community Sports Centre. Bottcher, and his team of Marc Kennedy, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert started with hammer blanking the first end. Bottcher came out strong in the second end, finishing the end with a draw to the four-foot for two points. After a blank in the third end, Schneider and his team of Sterling Middleton, Jason Ginter and Alex Horvath faced three Bottcher counters on their last of the fourth end, with Schneider making a double to score. Schneider stayed tough in the fifth end, forcing Bottcher to draw for a single against two buried stone, then making a hit and stay against three in the sixth end to score again. Bottcher was forced in the seventh end, drawing against a split house into the eight-foot to score, heading into the final end with a 4-2 advantage. Schneider never challenged wth Bottcher running out their opposition for the win. Bottcher won 5-3 over Johnson Tao and the University of Alberta Golden Bears of Edmonton, while Schneider scored a single in the final end to win 6-5 over Saskatoon-based Mike McEwen. Bottcher won 9-0 over Aaron Sluchinski of Airdrie in a short game, taking two ends, while Schneider won 8-6 over Ryan Wiebe of Winnipeg. McEwen won 6-5 over Yusuke Morozumi, stealing the extra-end win and Tao won 7-5 over Edmonton's Karsten Sturmay. Bottcher finished 4-1 in the 18-team qualifying round. In their opening game, Bottcher defeated Kenan Wipf (Calgary, AB) 7-2, then won 7-1 against Jacob Libbus (Okotoks, AB) and 7-4 against Schneider. Bottcher won 9-3 against Scott Webb (Grande Prairie, AB), then going on to lose 7-4 against Wiebe in their final qualifying round match.
