![]() Manitoba's Reid Carruthers (photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) defeated his home province rival Jordon mcDonald 6-3 to advance to the A-Qualifier game at the ATB Okotoks Classic in Okotoks, Alberta. By Connor Simms, #21 World-Ranked Reid Carruthers with B.J. Neufeld at third, Catlin Schneider, Kyle Doering and Connor Njegovan on the front end are kicking off their season in Okotoks, Alberta. Carruthers had a few lineup changes last season, but was ultimately able to find success on tour. It started when former skip Brad Jacobs moved to the Alberta rink, which brought in Schneider. Then, former long-time second Derek Samagalski announced his departure from the team, which led to the hiring of Doering. Their last move was bringing in BJ Neufeld, who was dropped by Manitoba's Matt Dunstone mid-season last year. After all those changes, Carruthers had an impressive run at the 2025 Montana Brier, finishing in fourth place. This season, Carruthers held their spot at the pre-trials in Nova Scotia in October. Due to Carruthers' coaching, Manitoba's Kerri Einarson and the team, which had just come together, dropped out of their chances at the Olympic Trials and continue to shift their focus to making the 2026 Montana's Brier. They are in the ATB Okotoks Classic. In their opening game, they defeated British Columbia's Matthew Blandford 6-2. They then took on Manitoba's Jordon McDonald. McDonald won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. Carruthers got on the board in the fourth, with three points after a short runback double around the guard. After a blank in the first end, McDonald was forced to their single point after missing an angle slash for a possible three points. McDonald stole one in the second after Carruthers missed a tap for their single point. Carruthers stole one after McDonald jammed the double attempt. After a nice freeze on Carruthers' last, McDonald was able to draw a full eight-foot for their single point. Carruthers added two more, making a nice double on his last. Ultimately, Carruthers ran McDonald out of stones for the 6-3 victory. This win advanced Carruthers to the A-qualifier game for a spot in the playoffs. They will take on Alberta's Brad Jacobs at 9:15 Central Time (CT). The loser of this game will drop to a B-qualifier game, taking on the winner of Alberta's James Ballance and Minnesota's John Shuster. In the other A-qualifier, it will be a battle of Saskatchewan as Rylan Kleiter will take on Mike McEwen. Catch the game live on the CurlingZone YouTube page.
