![]() Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen (photo: Anil Mungal/ GSOC) defeated Manitoba's Tanner Lott 7-1 to open their 2025-2026 season with a win at the ATB Okotoks Classic in Okotoks, Alberta. By Connor Simms, #7 World-Ranked Mike McEwen, with Colton Flasch at third, Kevin Marsh and Daniel Marsh on the front end, are kicking off their 2025-2026 Olympic Trial season. McEwen climbed two spots last season from #9 to #7 in the world. They grabbed key event wins at the PointsBet Invitational, Saville Shootout and the ATB Okotoks Classic. As well as three semi-final finishes at the Grand Slam of Curling Events. They are kicking off their season at the ATB Okotoks Classic. Last season, they took the title at this event with a 5-2 win over Minnesota's John Shuster. In their opening game at this year's event, they took on Manitoba's Tanner Lott. McEwen won the opening draw to the button for the hammer. McEwen opened the scoring fast with three points in the first end. In the second end, it saw McEwen stealing three to take an early 6-0 lead. Lott was forced to their single in the third. It was handshakes in the fourth end, after McEwen took their single to win 7-1. This is a triple knockout event with eight teams qualifying for the playoffs. McEwen will continue in the A-side with their next game against British Columbia's Cameron de Jong (#40) at 9:00 am Mountain Time (MT). de Jong defeated Alberta's Kevin Koe (#30) 8-4 in their opening game.
