To advance to the championship game, Hartung won 5-2 over Karsten Sturmay (Edmonton, AB) in the semifinals of the 2018 Red Deer Curling Classic in Red Deer, Alberta; and won 9-5 over Jason Jacobson (Saskatoon, SK) in the quarterfinals. of the 2018 Red Deer Curling Classic in Red Deer, Alberta;
 
Hartung finished 5-1 in the 28-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Hartung lost 8-3 to Bottcher, then responded with a 8-1 win over Ryan Deis (Fox Valley, SK). Hartung won 6-3 against Tyler Tardi (Langley, BC), then won 10-5 against Jamie Koe (Yellowknife, Y/NWT) and 5-4 against Daylan Vavrek (Calgary, AB). Hartung won 5-3 against James Pahl (Edmonton, AB) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Red Deer Curling Classic Championship title, Hartung earned 40.763 world rankings points along with the $10,000CDN first prize cheque. Hartung move up 24 spots after posting a net gain of 36.941 points improving upon their best 6 results so far this season, ranking 36th overall with 109.909 total points on the World Ranking Standings. Hartung ranks 27th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 86.979 points earned so far this season.
