McEwen finished 5-2 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Steve Irwin (Brandon, MB) 8-3, then went on to lose 5-3 against Matt Dunstone (Winnipeg, MB). McEwen responded with a 7-3 win over Northwest Territories's Jamie Koe. McEwen won 8-4 against Charley Thomas (Calgary, AB), then won 7-1 against Richard Muntain (Pinawa, MB). McEwen went on to lose 4-3 against Dunstone. McEwen responded with a 6-2 win over Jeff Hartung (Langenburg, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
McEwen earned 19.981 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the DEKALB Superspiel, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with 862.329 total points. McEwen ranks 4th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 288.329 points earned so far this season.
