 Edmonton's Selena Sturmay went undefeated through the A-event to book ther spot into Monday's playoff round. Sturmay with Danielle Schmiemann at third, Dezaray Hawes and Paige Papley on the front end completed through run through the A-event bracket with a 6-4 win over Danielle Inglis of Ottawa in the A-Qualifier game. Starting with hammer, Sturmay blanked the first end, then got on the board scoring 3 in the second end. Inglis responded in the third end scoring 2, then force Sturmay to a single in the fourth end. Leading 4-2, Sturmay held Inglis to a single in the fifth end, then was held to a single point in the sixth end with Inglis scoring one in the seventh end. Leading 5-4 with hammer in the final end, Sturmay scored one point for the 6-4 win. In their opening game, Sturmay defeated Emma Jensen (Winnipeg, MB) 5-2, then won 9-2 against Jolene Campbell (Winnipeg, MB) and 8-6 against Corryn Brown (Kamloops, BC) to advance to the A-Qualifier game. Inglis defeated Christine McMakin (Minneapolis, MN) 7-4, then won 8-6 against Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay, ON) to advance to a A-Qualifier game. Inglis drops into the B-event bracket semifinals where they will face Rachel Workin of Fargo, North Dakota, where a win advances into another qualifying game. Sturmay improved their record on the season to 35 wins and 16 losses with the DEKALB Superspiel being their fourth event of the eason. Sturmay won the Saville Grand Prix in October, also reaching the final of the Pumps and Pressure Red Deer Curling Classic in November. Inglis drops to 27-17, coming off an event win last weekend at the Curling Stadium North Bay Women's Spiel. Qualifying action continues at the Morris Curling Club in Morris, Manitoba through Sunday evening with 8 teams reaching the single knockout championship round on Monday. |
