By: Cameron Sallaj Bruce Mouat and his rink of Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr. have started their 2023-24 campaign in dominant fashion, winning both the Euro Super Series and the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard. This weekend at the Shorty Jenkins Classic, the team is looking to become the first Scottish squad to capture the event title. Following an opening 9-4 routing of Duluth's John Shuster, the number one ranked team in the world battled Penetanguishene's Glenn Howard in Thursday night action. Howard opened with hammer but gave up a steal to Mouat in the opening end. The two rinks traded singles through the next three ends to sit level at two-all at the break. Mouat blanked the fifth to take the hammer into the sixth end where his team put the only multi-point end on the board, cracking a four spot to put them ahead 6-2. This deficit proved to be too much to come back from for the Howard rink who conceded. Now sitting atop Pool B with a 2-0 record, the Mouat rink is on the right trajectory to capture their third event title of the season. The team has three more round robin games to go against Denis Cordick, Robert Desjardins and Felix Asselin before the playoff round gets underway Saturday night. For the Howard team with third Scott Howard, second David Mathers and lead Tim March, Draw 8 was only the teams first game of the event. They will play two games Friday and two games Saturday where they will need at least three victories for a shot at advancing. The AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic began Wednesday and is running through Sunday at the Cornwall Curling Centre in Cornwall, Ontario.
