By: Cameron Sallaj Following the departure of Yuta Matsumura from the team at the end of the 2021-22 season, Consadole has struggled to find success. The team won back-to-back bronzes at the national championship the past two years after winning three consecutive titles from 2019 to 2021. This weekend at the ADVICS Cup in Kitami, Consadole returned to their winning form, putting together a 5-1 record en route to claiming the championship title. The team, comprised of fourth Tetsuro Shimizu, third Haruto Ouchi, second and skip Shinya Abe, lead Sota Tsuruga and alternate Makoto Tsuruga faced Hayato Sato's Sapporo International University rink in the final. Despite starting without the hammer, Consadole got off to a good start with a steal of one in the opening end. Sapporo University then tied things in the second before a blank in end three. In the fourth, Abe put three on the board to take the first sizable lead of the game. They then forced Sato to just one in the fifth to retain a two-point lead with hammer. This allowed the team to add two more points to their total before a steal of four in the seventh end to end the game early, 10-2 the final score. The ADVICS Cup marked the fourth event for the Consadole rink this season. The team missed the playoffs at both the Hokkaido Bank Curling Classic and the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup but were able to finish third at the Argo Graphics Cup last weekend. The team's last tour win came at the Driving Force Decks Int'l Abbotsford Cashspiel where they defeated Brent Pierce in the final. Team Abe has two tour stops in Canada planned as they are scheduled to participate in both the Soo Curlers Fall Classic and the Red Deer Curling Classic.
