By: Cameron Sallaj Sturmay and his lineup of Kyle Doering, Glenn Venance, and Kurtis Goller from the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton finished 3-0 through the qualifying round of the Alberta Tour Kick-off, never missing a beat en route to claiming the top seed in the playoff round. In their first game, the top seeded team heading into the event faced Tyler Pfeiffer, also from Edmonton. After a close 2-2 scoreline after three, Sturmay got one in the fourth before stealing their way to a 7-2 opening game win. Saturday morning, the team won 5-0 over Rylan Kleiter (Saskatoon, SK) in just four ends thanks to a steal of three in the second. The Sturmay rink, which finished 3-5 at the Brier last season, closed out the round robin against the new Catlin Schneider rink from Victoria, BC. The turning point in the match came in the sixth where Team Sturmay counted the only deuce of the game for a three-point lead, going on to the 4-3 victory. In Saturday mornings semifinal round, Sturmay will face the Aaron Sluchinski rink from Airdrie in a battle between the third and fourth ranked Alberta rinks. The winner will move on to the championship game where they will meet the winner of the other semifinal between Daniel Casper (3-0; Chaska, MN) and Rylan Kleiter (2-1). The semifinals from the Alberta Tour Kick-off get underway at 10:00 AM Mountain Time with the final scheduled for 2:30 PM MT.
