By: Cameron Sallaj After a 1-3 routing at the Baden Masters last weekend, Korey Dropkin and his USA Lineup of Andrew Stopera, Mark Fenner, and Thomas Howell have found their groove this weekend at the National Curling Academy in Stirling as the team is among the final four left standing. In the quarterfinals, the team faced Michael Brunner's Swiss squad from Bern. The Americans got off to a quick start, counting two points with hammer in the opening end. The Swiss immediately responded with three of their own in the second for a one-point lead. Not to be outdone, however, Dropkin's rink counted two more in the third before stealing a single in the fourth to open up a 5-3 lead at the midway point. Into the second half, Brunner got one point back in the fifth end to close the gap to 5-4. This wouldn't be enough, though, as Dropkin added two more to their total in the sixth end before stealing two in the seventh for a dominant 9-4 victory in the quarterfinal stage. Team Dropkin finished fourth through the twenty-team qualifying round at the Euro Super Series, beginning with a 7-2 victory over Orrin Carson (Stirling, SCO). After falling to James Craik (Forfar, SCO), the team rebounded with another 7-2 win over Andrin Schnider (Schaffhausen, SUI). In their final round robin game, they won 6-2 over Lukas Hostmaelingen (Oslo, NOR). Now into the semifinals, Team Dropkin will go up against the so far undefeated Ross Whyte rink from Stirling. Whyte and his squad finished as the first seeds through the preliminary round with a 4-0 record and dispatched Hamilton's Kyle Waddell 7-5 in the quarterfinals. On the other side of the bracket, two heavy hitting Scottish lineups in Mouat and Bryce will square off for a spot in the final. The reigning world champions Bruce Mouat rink stole two in the eighth end to fend off James Craik 8-5 while Bryce and his team from Border downed Lukas Hostmaelingen 7-1 in five ends. The semifinal games from Stirling go at 8:30 AM British Time (3:30 AM ET) with the final set for 12:30 PM BT (7:30 AM ET).
