Jones/Laing Win Two at NISO Doubles Classic

World #1-ranked Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing of Barrie, Ontario debuted in Winnipeg at the St Vital NISO Doubles Classic.

In their opening game, Jones/Laing defeated Winnipeg's Rhea Teranishi/Mike Siwicki 11-0, then won 8-1 against another Winnipeg pair in Mackenzie Arbuckle and Aaron Macdonell.

Jones, originally of Winnipeg and now residing in Ontario with partner Brent Laing, won last season's Canadian Mixed Doubles National Championship, going on to finish fourth at the World Championships in Gangneung, South Korea.

Laing has not found himself on a four-player team for this upcoming season, after competiing with Mike McEwen in the 2022-23 season, while Jones continues to compete with her foursome out of Winnipeg.

The pair played seven Mixed Doubles events last season, also winning the Goldline Valleyfield Mixed Doubles in Quebec, along with a semifinal finish at the Saguenay Summer Series and two quarterfinals finishes in the Mixed Doubles Super Series, at the Service Experts Shootout in Leduc and the Hardline Open in Carleton Place.

In their next game, Jones/Laing plays Chaelynn Kitz/Brayden Stewart of Saskatoon on Saturday at 1pm and finishes round-robin playing against Kingston's Jessica Guilbault/Eric Fenech at 7pm.

Kitz/Stewart also sits at 2-0 along with Laura Walker and Connor Njegovan, replacing Kirk Muyres for the weekend, Dawn and Mike McEwen of Winnipeg and Karlee Burgess and Jacques Gauthier also of Winnipeg. The top 8 ranked teams will advance to Sunday's playoff round.
