Scotland's number one ranked women's team, Rebecca Morrison of Stirling, is into the playoff round in their first event of the 2023-24 season. The team, who won bronze at the 2022 European Championships and finished twelfth at the 2023 World Championship with a 3-9 record is looking to turn things around after finishing their round robin on a losing note.

The Morrison rink, with third Gina Aitken, second Sophie Sinclair, lead Sophie Jackson, and alternate Jenn Dodds had a strong start to their campaign at this year's Euro Super Series, routing clubmates Lucy Blair 10-2 in just five ends. While Team Blair only managed to count two singles, Morrison capitalized with hammer by swiping a six and four spot.

The Scottish team did not have their best performance in their second game against the new German team skipped by Emira Abbes, giving up a steal early and never managing to get ahead throughout the game. Despite this, the team stole two in the eighth end to win the game 5-3 and improve their record to 2-0, in good position to earn a bye to the semifinals.

In their final two round robin games, Team Morrison struggled, beginning with a morning encounter with World silver medalists Marianne Rorvik of Norway. The team gave up three in the first end to go down early, but managed to battle back into the lead with two consecutive deuces in ends four and five. That would be the last of their scoring, however, with the Norwegian side taking two in the sixth and swiping back-to-back steals in seven and eight, handing the Scotts an 8-5 loss.

While their game with Rorvik was down to the wire, their last round robin game with the United States' Delaney Strouse was not. Team Morrison found themselves in an early hole once again, down 4-1 after three. They managed to score two back in the fourth before Strouse ended things early with a five spot in the fifth, giving the Scottish team another loss, 9-3 the final score.

With their 2-2 record, Team Morrison was able to advance to the playoff round as the third seed out of their pool. With Strouse and Rorvik both at 3-1 and earning the top two spots, the third-place spot was either going to go to Morrison or Abbes, who also finished 2-2. However, Morrison defeated Abbes in their head-to-head game, giving Morrison the playoff spot over the German rink.

In the six-team playoff bracket, two teams earned byes to the semifinals while the other four will play in the quarterfinal matches tonight. Delaney Strouse (3-1; Traverse City, Michigan) and Stefania Constantini (4-0; Cortina d'Ampezzo, ITA) each finished first in their pool and moved directly to the semifinals Sunday morning.

The quarterfinal games Saturday night see the Morrison rink take on the World Junior champion Robyn Munro (2-2; Stirling, SCO). As third for Fay Henderson, Munro won gold at the 2023 Junior Championship in Fussen back in February. Her current lineup includes two others of her gold medal teammates in Holly Wilkie-Milne and Laura Watt. Marianne Rorvik (3-1; Lillehammer, NOR) will face Michele Jaeggi (2-2; Bern, SUI) in the other quarterfinal.

Quarterfinal action from the Euro Super Series kicks off at 1:00 PM Eastern Time with the featured matchup set between Munro and Morrison. Watch on Recast: https://the.recast.app/home.
