![]() BADEN, Switzerland - Duluth's Korey Dropkin (Photo: Stan Fong, Hardline Curling) will open their season at the Baden Masters in Switzerland in August. Dropkin with Andrew Stopera at third, Mark Fenner and Thomas Howell on the front end will return to Baden where they reached the playoffs to open last season, losing out in the quarterfinals to the eventual champions, skipped by Norway's Steffen Walstad. Dropkin's big win at the HearingLife Tour Challenge Tier 2 event launched the team into the top 10 on the World Curling Federation World Team Rankings. After reaching the Boost National semifinals, two weeks before the Tour Challenge, Dropkin added quarterfinals appearances at the Co-op Canadian Open in January and the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup in May, finishing the season with a 55-35 record on the season. Dropkin won twice on the USA Tour last season, winning at the Curl Mesabi Classic in Eveleth and the CURVE US Open Championship in Blaine. Dropkin went on to finish third at the USA Curling National Championship, dropping a semifinals matchup to Daniel Casper. CURVE US OPEN FINAL - Dropkin vs. Casper: Dropkin opens play against Switzerland's Michael Brunner at 11am local time (4am CT) on Friday, August 18th, then takes on Scotland's Cameron Bryce later that same day. On Saturday, August 19th, Dropkin faces Andrin Schnider of Switzerland, and Ugurcan Karagoz of Turkiye to finish out the round-robin. Italy's Joel Retornaz, ranked 5th-overall on the World Rankings, joins Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller (#7) and Scotland's Ross Whyte (#9) as the top ranking teams in the field, with Norway's Magnus Ramsfjell, Wouter Gosgens of the Netherlands, James Craik and Cameron Bryce of Scotland rounding out the top 20 in the field. Walstad and his 2022 champions will not be attendance as Markus Hoiberg has retired, and his teammates Magnus Nedregotten and Magnus Vaagberg pursuing other competitive opportunities. |
