Gushue Returns to Ice at Shorty

CORNWALL, ON - Brad Gushue's St John's-based foursome headline the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic in September.

The reigning Brier champions, as well as being curling's #1 world-ranked team, Gushue with his lineup of Mark Nichols at third, E.J. Harnden at second and Geoff Walker at lead return to the ice as the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic returns after last running in 2019.

"We are very excited to announce the return of the Shorty," said Kevin Baker of the Cornwall Curling Club. "The Shorty is loved by both curlers and fans alike. We expect to have a tough time trimming down the invite list to 48 teams."

Gushue has a career record of 57 wins and 27 losses in this, his 14th appearance at the AMJ Campbell Shorty Jenkins Classic, winning in 2015, and 2009.

Gushue won three titles last season, winning the Pan-Continental Championship as Team Canada last October, and the Boost National Grand Slam of Curling title. Gushue reached the final at the World Men's Curling Championship in Ottawa, as well as the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup.

Joining Gushue among the first 10 teams announced last week are World Champions Bruce Mouat (#2) of Scotland, and World #3-ranked Niklas Edin of Sweden. Italy's Joel Retornaz (#5), Scotland's Ross Whyte (#9) and John Shuster (#13) of the United States highlight a strong International contingent with the Canadian-side represented by #12-ranked Reid Carruthers and #19-ranked John Epping, 4x time champion at the Shorty.

14 more teams will be announced following the August 1st registration deadline, with a handful of spots remaining available in both the women's and men's editions.
