The 2022 LGT World Men's Curling Championship couldn't have gotten off to a better start for Brad Gushue's Team Canada, with the rink picking up back-to-back victories to open the tournament in Las Vegas.

Just several weeks after winning a record-tying fourth Tim Hortons Brier title, Team Gushue continued their winning ways in the opening two draws at this year's men's worlds.

Team Canada officially opened their 2022 worlds campaign on Saturday afternoon against Lukas Klima's Team Czech Republic. Gushue's squad got off to a strong start in Draw 1, leading 4-1 at the fifth break.

While the Czechs would make a deuce in the seventh end, the team just couldn't get the points they need to take the win. Up by two in the tenth end, Gushue would leave Klima's rink with no possible shot for victory, securing Canada the win 6-4.

Team Canada wouldn't have much time to rest following their win over the Czech Republic, with the rink back at it in the evening draw against Rasmus Ramsfjell's Team Norway.

The battle between Canada and Norway was a close one, with the two rinks tied at four-apiece after six ends of play. Gushue would score two in seven, but Ramsfjell would tie things up again in eight with a deuce.

With his final shot in nine, Gushue just ticked off a guard, giving Norway a steal of one for a 7-6 lead with one end to go.

In ten, Gushue forced Norway into a tricky angle slash on their last shot, which was missed by mere millimetres, giving Canada a score of two for an 8-7 win.

With the victory, Canada moves to the top of the standings as the lone rink at 2-0. Five countries sit behind Canada in a tie for second place at 1-0, including Finland, Germany, Scotland, Sweden, and the USA.

Team Canada will have the morning off on Sunday in Vegas, before taking on Team Netherlands in the afternoon draw. Wouter Goesgens' rink enters Sunday afternoon's game in search of their first victory, the team went 0-2 on Saturday to open the event.

With their loss on Saturday evening, Team Norway splits opening day with a record of 1-1, dropping the rink to seventh in the standings with plenty of curling still left on the week.

The 2022 LGT World Men's Curling Championship continues Sunday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Draw 3 is set for 9:00 AM PT.
