Kleiter Grabs First Career Brier Win
![]() Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter (photo: Michael Burns, Curling Canada) won 7-4 over PEI's Tyler Smith to earn their first win at the 2025 Montana's Brier in Kelowna. By Connor Simms, Rylan Kleiter, with Joshua Mattern at third, Matthew Hall, and Trevor Johnson on the front end, will look for valuable experience at their first Brier. Kleiter has been on a run this season, climbing to 6th in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) and #20 in the World Team Rankings. They took on Prince Edward Island's Tyler Smith Sunday morning in draw 4 action, winning the opening draw to the button for the hammer. In the first end, Kleiter was able to find his deuce. Smith was forced to his single in the second end. After a blank in the third end, Kleiter was forced to their single in the fourth end. Unable to find their duece in the fifth, Smith was forced to another single. Kleiter was forced to another single in the sixth end. Kleiter applied pressure to Smith, breaking the game open with a steal of two points. Kleiter ran Smith out of stones in the tenth for the 7-4 victory. Smith found their first deuce of the game in the eighth end. In the ninth end, Kleiter was forced to their single. The team curled a total of 88%; individually, Rylan was 90%, Joshua was 86%, Matt was 90%, and Trevor was 84%. Kleiter lost to Nova Scotia's Owen Purcell 7-2 in their opening game. They are back on the ice Monday against Northwest Territories Aaron Bartling at 3:30 pm Central Time (CT). They have two games on Tuesday with Alberta's Brad Jacobs at 10:30 am CT and Ontario's Sam Mooibroek at 8:30 pm CT. On Wednesday, they face provincial rivals Mike McEwen at 3:30 p.m. CT. They wrap up the round robin on Thursday with Yukon's Thomas Scoffin at 10:30 a.m. CT and Quebec's Felix Asselin at 8:30 p.m. CT. The top three teams in each pool will move on to the playoffs. The one-seeds will face the two seeds for a spot in Saturday's 1-2 page playoff game. The game's losers will move on to play the three seeds for a place in Saturday's 3-4 page playoff game. The winner of the 1-2 page playoff game will advance to Sunday's finals, when the loser will face the winner of the 3-4 page playoff game in the semi-finals. In other Sunday morning action, McEwen defeated Purcell 8-6, Mooibroek defeated Bartling 12-2, and Asselin defeated Scoffin 7-5. Jacobs had the bye in pool B. In draw 5 action, the feature game on TSN will be between Canada's Brad Gushue and Northern Ontario's John Epping. Catch all the line scores on the Curling Zone Website. |
