By Connor Simms, #4 World-Ranked Kerri Einarson with Val Sweeting at third, Shannon Birchard, Krysten Karwacki and Karlee Burgess on the front end, keep building toward the Canadian Olympic Trials. Earlier this month, Einarson competed in the Saville Shootout, which is their only event so far this season. Einarson went a perfect 7-0, claiming the title. That was their first event with Shannon Birchard back in the lineup after taking last season off with an injury. They are in the AMJ Masters this week. Last season at the AMJ Masters, Einarson went 2-2 through round robin, losing the quarter-finals to Sweden's Isabella Wrana. In their second game, they took on Italy's Stefania Constantini. Einarson won the opening game draw to the button for the hammer. In the first end, Einarson attempted a draw for two to the button, but came up light, settling for their single point. Einarson grabbed a steal of one after Constantini was unable to remove a locked Einarson stone on the button. Einarson then cracked a steal of three after Constantini came up light on a draw. Constantini found their first points of the game, coming off a wide stone, making the in off for two points. In the fifth end, Constantini stole two after Einarson wrecked on the guard on a light-weight takeout attempt. Constantini then tied the game at 5 with a steal of one, after Einarson came up heavy on a draw to the side of the button. Einarson got back on the scoreboard with a single point, failing to make a tough hit and roll for their second point. Constantini saw an opportunity to win with an angle slash but came up wide, resulting in a steal of one and a 7-5 victory for Einarson. In their opening game, Einarson lost to Switzerland's Xenia Schwaller 5-4. In their next game, they will face Sweden's Anna Hasselborg at 2:30 pm Central Time (CT) on Thursday. Their final round robin game will be on Friday against a to-be-determined opponent, which will be decided based on their first three round robin games. In another draw 6 action, Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni defeated Japan's Momoha Tabata 7-3, Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen defeated Minnesota's Korey Dropkin 7-1, and Newfoundland and Labrador's Brad Gushue defeated China's Xiao Ming Xu 6-5.
