Carruthers Off to 2-0 Start
![]() Manitoba's Reid Carruthers defeated Newfoundland and Labrador's Ty Dilello 14-2 to start 2-0 at the 2025 Montana's Brier in Kelowna, British Columbia. By Connor Simms, Reid Carruthers with B.J. Neufeld at third, Catlin Schneider and Connor Njegovan on the front end look to have a strong week at the 2025 Montana's Brier. Carruthers needed to qualify for the Brier through the Manitoba provincials. They desperately needed to win to gain some much-needed points for a possible Trials spot. The team welcomed Neufeld to third place. They took on Newfoundland and Labrador's Ty Dilello on Saturday evening, winning the opening draw to the button for the hammer. In the first end, Carruthers was forced to his single. Adding a steal train in the second and third ends with a steal of four points and a steal of two points to take an early 7-0 lead. Stealing another two points in the fourth end. Dilello found the scoreboard in the fifth end with a deuce. Carruthers blanked the sixth end. Carruthers capitalized with the hammer scoring four more points to make it 13-2 and adding one more point in the eighth end for the 14-2 victory. Curling a team 93%, Individually, Carruthers was at a 97%, Neufeld was at 89%, Schneider was at 90%, and Njegoven was at 98%. The fifth Kyle Doering came in for Schneider after the 6th end, curling 88%. Carruthers Defeated British Columbia's Cameron De Jong 6-5 in their opening game. They will face Alberta's Kevin Koe in their next game at 3:30 p.m. Central Time (CT) on Sunday. Carruthers will play New Brunswick's James Grattan on Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT and Canada's Brad Gushue at 8:30 p.m. CT. They will play Northern Ontario's John Epping on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT. They will wrap up the round robin on Wednesday with Nunavut's Shane Latimer at 10:30 a.m. CT and Manitoba's Matt Dunstone at 8:30 p.m. CT. The top three teams in each pool will move on to the playoffs. The one-seeds will face the two seeds for a spot in Saturday's 1-2 page playoff game. The game's losers will move on to play the three seeds for a place in Saturday's 3-4 page playoff game. The winner of the 1-2 page playoff game will advance to Sunday's finals, when the loser will face the winner of the 3-4 page playoff game in the semi-finals.
