![]() Nova Scotia's Owen Purcell (photo: Curling Canada/Michael Burns) defeated Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter 7-2 to win his first career at the 2025 Montana's Brier in Kelowna, British Columbia. By Connor Simms, Owen Purcell with Luke Saunders at third, Scott Saccary and Ryan Abraham on the front end enter their first Brier together as a team. Purcell is making his Brier debut in Kelowna, while Saunders, Saccary and Abraham return to the Brier with a combined ten appearances. In their opening game, they took on Saskatchewan's Rylan Kleiter, winning the opening draw to the button for the hammer. The game started slowly on the scoreboard, with the first point coming in the fourth end on a flashed blank attempt from Purcell. In the fifth end, Purcell made a long runback double for three points for an early shot of the week contender. After a blank in the sixth end, Kleiter was forced to a nose hit for their single point. The game returned to familiar territory in the eighth with another blank end. In the ninth end, Purcell has an open shot to the paint for their deuce. Unable to find three in the tenth, Kleiter gave up a steal of two and a 7-2 victory for Purcell. In their next game, Purcell will face Saskatchewan's Mike McEwen at 12:30 pm Atlantic Time (AT) on Sunday morning. They face Yukon's Thomas Scoffin on Sunday evening at 10:30 pm AT. On Tuesday, they will have the day off on Monday with their next game against Prince Edward Island's Tyler Smith at 12:30 pm AT. Tuesday evening they face Alberta's Brad Jacobs at 10:30 pm AT. On Wednesday, they face Quebec's Felix Asselin at 5:30 pm AT. They wrap up round robin on Thursday with Northwest Territories at 12:30 pm AT and Ontario's Sam Mooibroek at 10:30 pm AT. When asked about their first win at the Brier, Purcell said "Just building that confidence is huge for later in the week." The top three teams in each pool will move on to the playoffs. The one-seeds will face the two seeds for a spot in Saturday's 1-2 page playoff game. The game's losers will move on to play the three seeds for a place in Saturday's 3-4 page playoff game. The winner of the 1-2 page playoff game will advance to Sunday's finals, when the loser will face the winner of the 3-4 page playoff game in the semi-finals.
