Scotties Preview: Homan vs Black
![]() Ottawa's Rachel Homan will play Halifax's Christina Black for a spot in Saturday's Page 1v2 game. As the Number 1 in the World, there isn't much new about Homan and her team of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes as they have led an absolute domination of the women's game over the last two seasons now. After losing only seven games last season, Homan is following up that historic season with an even stronger performance in 2024/25, winning 93% of their games so far. Their 67-7 record led to a 91% win-rate in 2023/24. However, history opens the door for Black and her five-player teams of Jill Brothers, Jennifer Baxter, Karlee Everist and Marlee Powers, as they do have a win over Homan in their past. Powers and Baxter have been trading off at the second position. Black is 49-11 on the season, ranking 16th overall on the World Curling rankings and fourth overall in Canada. They also have a win over Homan, taking a 7-6 decision at the 2023 Scotties in Kamloops. While this is prior to the last two seasons where Homan has dominated the game, it's always easier to accomplish something you'd done before. Since, Homan has won three meetings, taking a 10-5 decision at the 2023 PointsBet Invitational, the 2023 KIOTI National and again at this season's KIOTI National. Black has had a very strong season, winning five events themselves including the HearingLife Tour Challenge Tier 2 event. The strength of these wins pales in comparison to the event that Homan won, though we see a team in Black who can win the big games when it matters. The winner of today's game advances to the Page 1v2 game on Saturday, while the losing team gets one more chance to qualify for the playoffs against BC's Corryn Brown. The game is on TSN at 1 pm Eastern Time (ET). |
