Black Books Playoff Position
![]() Nova Scotia's Christina Black (photo: Andrew Klaver, Curling Canada) booked her spot in the Scotties playoffs Friday night with an 8-6 win over Manitoba's Kate Cameron. By Meredith McCullum With the win over Cameron in the final draw of pool play, Christina Black will move on to face Rachel Homan - Team Canada - in the page 1v2 seeding game Saturday at 1pm. Black and teammates Jill Brothers, Karlee Everist, Jenn Baxter and Marlee Powers started off the game with hammer, scoring 2 to be the first team on the board. Cameron scored 2 in the 2nd and stole in the 3rd, before Black got momentum back on their side with a deuce in the 4th. Add on another point for Cameron in the 5th and the score was 4-4 after 5 ends. Black opened the second half of the game with another deuce, then forced Cameron to 1 in the 7th. Black scored only a single point in the 8th to go up 7-5, but a steal in the 9th that put them up 8-5 would be the difference maker. Cameron was able to score a point in the final end, but it wasn't enough as Black picked up the 8-6 victory. Black started the week with a strong 7-5 win over Ontario's Danielle Inglis before dropping a tight loss to Yukon's Bayly Scoffin. Black then secured 3 straight victories over Manitoba's Kaitlyn Lawes, Newfoundland & Labrador's Brooke Gosland and Northwest Territories Kerry Galusha. Black dropped a close game to Manitoba's Kerri Einarson Wednesday afternoon, dropping to 4-2 on the week. However 2 tight wins in the final 2 games closed out their pool play record with a bang and booked them a trip into weekend play in the championship round. Black plays Friday afternoon against an undefeated Homan at 2pm ET. A win puts them through to the 1v2 Page Playoff game and a loss gives them a second chance in the 3v4 Page Seeding game. All games are streamed through TSN or Curling Canada Plus, and scores can all be found on CURLINGZONE. |
