Einarson Rolls Into Playoffs
![]() Kerri Einarson (photo: Andrew Klaver, Curling Canada) edged out fellow Manitoban Kaitlyn Lawes in a tight battle Friday night to pick up a 5th win and secure a playoff berth at the Scotties in Thunder Bay. By: Meredith McCullum Kerri Einarson and her newly formed squad of Lauren Lenentine, Krysten Karwacki, Karlee Burgess and Val Sweeting survived a back-and-forth thriller against Lawes to seal first place in Pool B and a date with Alberta's Kayla Skrlik in the Page 1v2 Seeding game Saturday at 1pm ET. Einarson started with hammer and the teams traded single points in the first 2 ends. Einarson then scored 2, forced 1 and blanked to go up 3-2 after 5 ends of play. The teams traded deuces to maintain a 1 point game 4-3 through 7 ends. Einarson was forced to a single in the 8th and Lawes was finally able to secure a deuce in the 9th to tie the game up 6-6 heading into the final end. In the 10th end, Lawes had an opportunity to tap Einarson's stone and sit shot on the button with an Einarson stone behind it for a potential jam. Her attempt was close, but she tapped the rock a little to far, leaving Einarson a routine nose hit for the win which she made with ease. Einarson's squad out of the Gimli Curling Club had a 2-0 start at the event, before dropping two tough wins to Quebec's Laurie St-Georges and Northwest Territories Kerry Galusha. Einarson's next 3 games were come from behind victories over Manitoba's Kate Cameron, Nova Scotia's Christina Black and Ontario's Danielle Inglis in that order. Each of the 3 wins saw Black score multiple points in the final end to win the game after being down big through the first 5 ends. Einarson will play the page 1v2 seeding game Saturday and either move onto the page 1v2 game or the page 3v4 seeding game depending on the result. All games are streamed through TSN or Curling Canada Plus, and scores can all be found on CURLINGZONE. |
