Einarson on Scotties Hot Streak
![]() After some midweek struggles, Manitoba's Kerri Einarson (photo: Andrew Klaver, Curling Canada) has won three straight at the Scotties in Thunder Bay. After two straight losses early in the week that dropped Einarson to 2-2, Einarson and her team of Val Sweeting, Karlee Burgess and Krysten Karwacki have found their form. The transformation has come just in time for Einarson to run the gauntlet of top seeds, with wins of Manitoba's Kate Cameron, Nova Scotia's Christina Black, and the most recent win, 8-6 over Ontaro's Danielle Inglis. As has been the case for Einarson in several of her games, the team fell behind early when Inglis, with Kira Brunton, Calissa Daly and Cassandra de Groot, opened scoring with two points in the second end. Einarson scored two in the third end, though Inglis scored one in the fourth end and stole another in the fifth end to restore their two-point lead. After teams traded singles, Einarson scored two in the eighth end to tie the game, then adding a steal in the ninth end for their first lead of the game. Inglis scored a single in the tenth end to force and extra end, where Einarson scored two for the win. Einarson and Inglis both sit at 5-2, tied atop Pool B with Christina Black of Nova Scotia. Quebec's Laurie St-Georges has finished their round-robin play at 5-3, though with a win over Einarson, they're still very much in the playoff hunt. St-Georges' Last Stone Draw (LSD) total of 386.8 cm is also better than all three teams ahead of them in the standings. Black (5-2) plays Manitoba's Kate Cameron (4-3), and Einarson (5-2) plays Kaitlyn Lawes (4-3) in an all-Manitoba battle. As an added wrinkle, Lawes has the best shootout score of all teams in the field, with a combined total of 165.3 cm and one game to count. |
