Team Homan thoroughly deserve the Trials spot, that final was jaw droppingly? good from them.
Seems like Epping is going to Saskatoon as well, will he do better than 2-6 like he did in 2017? With this team, I think so.

Was rooting for Koe, but glad they made it to the finals nonetheless.

You must be joking - the Perth Masters is an event for men only.
Perhaps you are thinking of the Perth International Ladies which has a 1st prize of 4,000 euros?

i have to admit im curious as to why the canadian teams have chosen to stop going overseas to compete. i mean..they go to the asian events but you hardly ever see canadian teams in the big european events anymore. basel, baden and perth always used to attract a big canadian name or 2 . gushue in particular used to travel a lot.

the oslo cup, when it was running was a popular stop for canadians. its to bad that event is no longer around.

I recall reading one of Eve Muirhead's articles from several months ago where she was bemoaning the loss of some of the European events she used to play in every year. There's been a decline in European investment in curling, it seems, at the same time that it's been picking up in Asia and in the USA.

Years ago there weren't as many spiels in Canada as there are now. Now there's sometimes 5-6 every week. Much cheaper for the Canadian teams to stay in Canada than to fly to Basel. And, with the teams chasing the points to get into the top 15 or so to get the slam invites, it would take much less time and money to stay in Canada competing for more points weekly. That's why we see so many Euro teams coming to Canada for 2-3 or more weeks at a time. Cheaper to come here for an extended stay, than only play there every 3rd or 4th week there.

Still, having said that, I think it would be great experience for the Canadians to play even once a year in Europe.

Checked out the draw schedule for the Perth Masters and it appears that two of Canada's top curling teams will participate in January, 2020.

Team McEwen is probably there because of their need for something called "points". At the same time it will give them a perfect opportunity to escape the extreme January temperatures in "The Peg" which at times can be colder than those in Nunavet. To them, Perth will seem like a southern vacation!

The other team, Gushue & Co, seems to be a regular in Perth and since they are certainly not there for points, I'm guessing it can only be for the haggis.

Tried it once. M'mm Good? Definitely not!

Caught the replay of the final game between Team Fleury, currently # 1 on the World Curling Tour, and Homan & Co. ranked 9th prior to this event.

Certainly was an intriguing match up between the best "draw artist" in Canada and Homan who owns a a "takeout weapon" no former woman curling champion has ever possessed.

A curler like Homan, and the team she has assembled, come along once in a lifetime; difficult to accept that they are only now approaching their prime.

Let's hope not. I want and wish for them the experience of winning gold at the Olympics. I believe they were completely heart-broken and disappointed with the thought they may have let their fans and Canada down at the last Olympic games. They'll always have my support. I wish them well.

What Homan & Co. have achieved to date at such an early age is clearly unmatched and unequalled by any women's curling team in the history of the sport. It is, and should be noteworthy that at age 30, Homan has actually accomplished more at this juncture of her career than
S. Schmirler, C. Jones and J. Jones achieved altogether.

And yes, as you infer, it is entirely possible that they may never win Olympic gold and for that matter it's possible they may not even win the Olympic Trials either. And for sure, that would be unfortunate, But That's All It Would Be - especially if they go on in the future to win 5 or 6 more Canadian Scotties ( wouldn't that drive ML off the deep end?) plus 15 or more Grand Slams etc, etc., all of which is entirely possible.

* Are you always so negative or is it simply that your provincialism is showing?

And yet, those 3 names you mentioned went on to win a combined 15 Canadian championships, 8 World Championships, and 2 Olympic Gold medals. Not to mention the tragedy that befell Schmirler only a couple years following her Olympic Gold.

Rachel has precisely 1 World Championship and 3 Canadian titles. Yes, tons and tons of Grand Slam victories, but those either didn't exist at all or in numbers to the same extent for the previous women.

Still a ways to go for Rachel and co.

If you're trying to compare teams past and present, it's Scotties, Worlds and Olympics. Slams are nothing more than big invitational only cash spiels. Yes, big spiels and tough to win, but Scotties, Worlds and Olympics MUCH TOUGHER. 5,6,7 slam chances per year vs once per year and once every 4 years. No comparison.

In off for 2 said it best, for Canadian teams the Scotties, Worlds and Olympics are the benchmark for being the best. The Slams are not even close to being recognized as special “best” wins. I suspect any team that has won 2 Slam events would gladly give those up for one Scotties Championship.

"I suspect any team that has won 2 Slam events would gladly give those up for one Scotties Championship". dks. 12-08-19

I agree.

And by the same token, would you also not agree that the vast majority of teams which have won one or two Scottie Championships would not give them up in a heartbeat for an Olympic medal? Any Olympic medal?

I'm sure you can understand where all of this may be going. Actually it's nowhere, because all of this can only be quantified in terms of one's perception or opinion.
