Mea Culpa
Okay. I’m streaming the slam events here, and it’s my first taste of the SN crew.
I get it. They’re great.
I still think y’all are too rough on Vic and the crew, but these guys are fantastic.

Yes you are probably correct we can be a little too critical of the TSN crew. However some of us that watch a ton of curling want a change from the current crew. Vic has been doing this for over 30 years and a new voice would be fine with me. I used to like Russ a lot when he first started but now I think he feels he needs to voice his opinion too much and like some have posted on here, he and Cheryl babble way way too much. He also is not unbiased for many games and when he thinks a team is not as good as the other he questions their strategy. I have enjoyed the quietness of the commentators today and really like Kevin Martin's calm and rational approach to presenting options on a shot.
I will always watch as much curling on TV as possible even if my 3 dogs were the commentators. But I have found this year especially that the TSN's "schtik" is not as enjoyable.

I think BOTH TSN and Sportsnet would be better with just 2 commentators. Take your pick of who do get rid of, but all 3 constantly talk over each other, talk over the players, all in a big fight as to who gets on air or not. Especially TSN. Listen to me! No me!! Stick with 2, and FTLOG let us listen to the players on the ice, not the incessant "banter" of too many people in the booth. Lose the non curlers in the booth taking up air time. How many times have we heard Italy beat Canada (with Russ Howard) at the Olympics. Get new material or get out of the booth. Harsh? Maybe. But the truth.

This is more of a language/cultural question, but can someone explain this family of phrases that Howard & Bernard use?
Person A: "He does [something]"
Person B: "Does he ever?!"
From what I understand, Person B is basically saying "Yes, he does!", but somehow turn it around into, I guess a rhetorical question?
There's a whole family of this phrases, "Did she ever?!", "Do they ever?!", etc.
English is not my first language, and I gotta be honest, I've never heard of this kind of phrases before I started watching curling, and would like to learn more about it.

“Does he ever?”
This is kind of saying “not only is that correct, it’s REALLY CORRECT”
Think of it as you saying “Jason Gunnlaugson throws it pretty hard.”
My response might be “does he ever!” Not as a question, but rather as a point of emphasis. Not only does gunner throw it hard, he throws it REALLY HARD.

Google search reveals that there has been a lot of "Boy/girl, does he/she ever!" used in various context, including one episode of The Simpsons (Pray Anything).
Still sounds really weird to me, but whatever.
//edit: while I got your attention, what about the "If X, X" pattern of speech?
Example:
"If I chip the guard, I chip the guard."
I wish I can provide more examples, but I'm drawing blank from memory right now. But basically it's "If [this scenario happens], [this scenario happens]".
I believe it simply means "[This scenario] is OK/not too bad", but I could be wrong. It just feels like such a repetitive/redundant pattern to use when speaking.
//edit: here's an example!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI0D-SUvBYg&t=40s (Bonus: Robert Desjardins commentating!)
Jones: "And if they go there, then..."
Nichols: "Well, if they go there, they go there..."
Jones: "Yeah, that's a really good shot..."
And later:
Carey: "If you roll too far, you roll too far, it's not the end of the world..."

Martin is so much better reading the release, before the team even yells he's saying oh, they got that started or set it back.
