By Connor Simms, #12 World-Ranked Riley Craig/Brendan Craig are looking for the same luck at the Mixed Doubles Super Series on the ice as they did off the ice, attending the Toronto Blue Jays game. Having some time off from curling last weekend, Craig/Craig attended the Toronto Blue Jays ALDS playoffs against the New York Yankees. An all-time moment occurred when Toronto's Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a Grand Slam. The lucky fan who caught the ball was Brendan Craig, whose video of the catch has been circulating online. Craig/Craig, formerly known as Sandheim/Craig after their summer wedding, focus on mixed doubles. Last season, they qualified for the Olympic Trials (1-6) and the Canadian National Championship, finishing 4-3 and narrowly missing the playoffs. This team is making waves in the Mixed Doubles circuit, having clinched four event championships, including the Ontario Mixed Doubles Tour Championship. This is their second event of this season, as they played at the Dixie Mixed Doubles Cup, where they went 4-1, losing the semi-final to the eventual champions, Korea's Seonyeong Kim/Yeongseok Jeong. This week, they are at the Mixed Doubles Super Series event in Kitchener-Waterloo. This is a 10-team event, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals. In their opening game, they lost to Ontario's Megan Smith/Dylan Niepage 7-2. This led to a matchup with Ontario's Kimberley Headley/Mike Aprile in their second game. Headley/Aprile won the opening game draw to the button for the hammer. Headley/Aprile were forced to their single in the first end. Craig/Craig opened the game with a big four points in the second. They then traded singles in the third and fourth. Headley/Aprile brought the game within reach with a three in the fifth. Craig/Criag immediately responded with four more in the sixth. Headley/Aprile got two in the seventh but was unable to find the two steals in the eighth, giving Craig/Craig the 9-7 victory. In their next game, they will face Minnesota's Sarah Anderson/Andrew Stopera at 8:00 pm Eastern Time on Friday. They will wrap up the round robin on Saturday against Ontario's Katie Ford/Oliver Campbell at 1:00 pm ET. Catch the games live on CurlingZone with fixed coverage on sheets 4 and 5, featuring sheet 6.
