By Connor Simms, #4 World-Ranked Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin lead the field at the opening Mixed Doubles Super Series event in Kitchener-Waterloo, looking to make a statement heading into the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic season. Last season, USA Curling held its Mixed Doubles National Championship in February. The winner earned a spot in the 2025 World Championships. If successful in qualifying their country for the 2026 Olympics, they will represent the USA as the Mixed Doubles Olympic team. Thiesse/Dropkin entered the competition as the favourites. They lived up to the hype, finishing the round robin with an 8-1 record as the top seed. This led to a 1-2, 3-4 page playoff, where they defeated the second-place team to advance to the final. The finals were a best-of-three series between the two top teams from the round robin. They showcased their dominance by winning the first two games against Minnesota's Sarah Anderson/Andrew Stopera to earn the Team USA spot at the World Championships. The 2023 World Champions finished the round robin 6-3, earning a spot in the quarterfinals. They ultimately lost to Scotland's Jennifer Dodds/Bruce Moaut in the quarterfinal. However, they achieved their main goal of qualifying the USA for the Olympics and securing their spot as the nation's representatives. Thiesse/Dropkin have prepared their season schedule for the Olympic Games. They have already competed in two events this season. They finished in third place at the Stirling Mixed Doubles Invitational, losing to Australia's Tahli Gill/Dean Hewitt, before defeating Scotland's Hailey Duff/Ross Whyte in the bronze medal game. They then won the Victoria's Mixed Doubles Cash Spiel, going undefeated with a 7-0 record. This week, Cory Thiesse/Korey Dropkin are participating in the Mixed Doubles Super Series in Kitchener-Waterloo, where they are the top-ranked team. This is a 10-team event, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals. In their opening game, they will face Ontario's McKenna Nathan/Tanner Nathan at 12:00 pm ET on Friday. They then play Ontario's Terri Weeks/Sam Steep at 4:00 pm ET. They will wrap up round-robin play on Saturday with games against Ontario's Michelle Butler/Jerry Butler at 9:00 am ET and Ontario's Kira Brunton/Victor Pietrangelo at 1:00 pm ET.
