PEI's White/White win twice on day 2

Jenny and Ed White (Photo: Curling Canada) are rolling at the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles with two wins on Monday.

The home province champions Jenny and Ed White are giving the crowd lots to cheer for in Summerside, recording two wins to sit 2-1 after two days at the national championship.

It was a slow start for the PEI champs hailing from the Crapaud Community Curling Club as they dropped their first game on Sunday 8-5 to Melissa Adams and Alex Robichaud (3-0; Fredericton, NB). Looking to turn things around, they played Nancy Martin and Steve Laycock in Draw 3.

Despite starting with last rock, the married duo found themselves down 3-0 after two ends and later 4-1 after four ends. Coming back in the second half however, they turned things around, shutting out Martin and Laycock 6-0 to grab a stolen 7-4 win.

In the afternoon, the team took on Kelly Tremblay and Pierre Lanoue of Quebec. In this game, White/White grabbed control early and never looked back, jumping ahead 5-0 after two.

With deuces in three and five, Tremblay/Lanoue closed the gap down to 6-4. This wouldn't last long, however, as Team PEI scored one in the sixth before swiping a steal of two in the seventh, taking a strong 9-4 win to improve their record to 2-1.

Team White/White have dominated the mixed doubles scene in PEI over the past few years, winning five of the last six provincial titles. They also competed in the Scotties and Brier this year for the province, proving themselves as one of PEI's strongest curling duos.

By securing two wins, the 2025 championship will already be a record best finish for the pair who finished 1-6 in 2023 and 0-7 in 2024. Now, they have their eyes set on the playoffs as they make a push for the top 12.

Next up for White/White is Sandham/Craig (1-2; Guelph, ON) and Wiseman/Smith (1-2; St. John's, NL) at 1 and 7 pm AT on Tuesday. They will also face Smith/Thomson and King/King on Wednesday to close out the round robin.

With twelve teams advancing to the knockout round, a 4-3 record at minimum will be needed for a chance at qualification.
