Korea, Switzerland lead World Women's standings

South Korea's Gim Eun-ji (Photo: World Curling) and Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni are both 5-0 after day 3 in Uijeongbu.

While many expected Canada's Team Rachel Homan to lead the way through the 2025 LGT World Women's Curling Championship, an early loss by the Canadian side allowed other contenders to lead the way through the early stages of the round robin.

In joint possession of first place are Korea's Gim Eun-ji and Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni, both of whom are unblemished through eight draws.

For Gim and her host rink of Kim Min-ji, Kim Su-ji, Seol Ye-eun and Seol Ye-ji, they have had many close calls but have continued evading the loss column. In three of their five games, the Korean side needed extra ends to escape Japan, Scotland and China while also securing wins over Norway and Turkiye.

Conversely for Switzerland's Tirinzoni rink, including Alina Patz, Carole Howald and Selina Witschonke, they had three dominant performances over China, Turkiye and Scotland while also picking up wins over the United States and Scotland in ten ends.

Following closely behind the leaders is Canada's Rachel Homan, who after an early loss to Scotland have bounced back, defeating Denmark's Madeleine Dupont 9-3 in Draw 7. Denmark also responded to their loss positively by downing Norway 13-7 in Draw 8. Sweden is the only other team currently sitting above .500, sharing a 3-2 record with the Danes.

Current Standings (After Draw 8):

Korea (Gim Eun-ji): 5-0
Switzerland (Silvana Tirinzoni): 5-0
Canada (Rachel Homan): 3-1
Denmark (Madeleine Dupont): 3-2
Sweden (Anna Hasselborg): 3-2
China (Wang Rui): 2-2
United States (Tabitha Peterson): 2-2
Italy (Stefania Constantini): 2-3
Japan (Sayaka Yoshimura): 2-3
Norway (Marianne Roervik): 2-3
Scotland (Sophie Jackson): 2-3
Lithuania (Virginija Paulauskaite): 0-5
Turkiye (Dilsat Yildiz): 0-5

Canada will play two games on day 4 of the competition. First, they will take on the United States' Tabitha Peterson (2-3; St. Paul, MN) at 8 pm ET Monday night before facing Turkiye's Dilsat Yildiz (0-5; Erzurum, TUR) at 6 am ET Tuesday morning.

Also on the schedule for Tuesday is a big game between pool leaders Korea and Switzerland to see who will take control of the standings at this pivotal point in the week.
