To advance to the championship game, Kanai won 4-2 over Ikue Kitazawa (Nagano, JPN) in the semifinals of the 2022 Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup in Wakkanai, Japan;
 
Kanai finished 2-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Kanai defeated Momoha Tabata (Sapporo, JPN) 8-4, then went on to lose 10-7 against Yoshimura. Kanai responded with a 1-0 win over Yuina Miura (Nayoro, JPN) in their final qualifying round match.
 
With their runner-up finish at the Wakkanai Midori Challenge Cup, Kanai take home 13.750 world rankings points along with the $4,747CDN prize, moving up 60 spots the World Ranking Standings into 78th place overall with 21.425 total points. Kanai ranks 10th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 13.750 points earned so far this season.
