Murphy finished 4-1 in the 18 team WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic qualifying round, held December 1 - 3, 2017 at the Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, Canada. In their opening game, Murphy defeated Tallon 8-7, then won 5-2 against Robert Mayhew (Halifax, NS). Murphy went on to lose 6-4 against Paul Dobson (Saint John, NB). Murphy responded with a 8-5 win over Dave Sullivan (Saint John, NB). Murphy won 8-4 against Paul Dexter (Halifax, NS) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the WFG Jim Sullivan Curling Classic Championship title, Murphy earned 18.912 world rankings points along with the $5,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 4 spots the World Ranking Standings into 45th place overall with 157.252 total points.
