To advance to the championship game, Thompson won 8-1 over Greg Balsdon (Kingston, ON) in the semifinals of the 2016 Challenge Casino de Charlevoix in Clermont, Quebec; and won 5-4 over Jamie Murphy (Halifax, NS) in the quarterfinals. of the 2016 Challenge Casino de Charlevoix in Clermont, Quebec;
 
Thompson finished 3-1 in the 21-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Thompson defeated Simon Benoit (Montreal, QC) 5-3, then won 6-1 against Balsdon. Thompson went on to lose 6-2 against Mike Kennedy (Moncton, NB). Thompson responded with a 6-2 win over Ryan McCrady (Ottawa, ON) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix Championship title, Thompson earned 31.562 world rankings points along with the $8,000CDN first prize cheque, moving up 7 spots the World Ranking Standings into 44th place overall with 141.083 total points. Thompson ranks 31st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 83.014 points earned so far this season.
