Lawton finished 5-2 in the 24 team Colonial Square Ladies Classic qualifying round, held September 16 - 19, 2016 at the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon, Canada. In their opening game, Lawton defeated Brett Barber (Biggar, SK) 7-6, then went on to lose 5-4 against Eve Muirhead (Perth, SCO). Lawton responded with a 6-2 win over Nancy Martin (Saskatoon, SK). Lawton went on to lose 6-5 against Bingyu Wang (HARBIN, CHN). Lawton responded with a 6-5 win over Alina Paetz (Zurich, SUI). Lawton won 6-4 against Barber, then won 8-4 against Robyn Silvernagle (North Battleford, SK) in their final qualifying round match.
 
Lawton earned 26.109 world rankings points for their Top 5 finish in the Colonial Square Ladies Classic, moving up 5 spots the World Ranking Standings into 26th place overall with 118.224 total points. Lawton ranks 18th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 29.346 points earned so far this season.
