Brad Gushue (St. John's, CAN) finished 6-1 in the 8-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, Gushue defeated SooHyuk Kim (Seoul, KOR) 9-4, then won 7-3 against Kroy Nernberger (Madison, USA) and 12-4 against Lucien Lottenbach (Luzern, SUI). Gushue won 5-3 against Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR), then won 10-3 against Sergei Glukhov (Sochi, RUS). Gushue went on to lose 8-3 against Fredrik Nyman (Stockholm, SWE). Gushue responded with a 7-3 win over Xiu Yue Ma (Beijing, CHN) in their final qualifying round match.
With their runner-up finish at the China Open, Gushue take home 24.131 world rankings points along with the $32,776CDN prize, remaining in 2nd place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of -27.992 after improving upon their best so far this season. Gushue ranks 13th overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 96.342 points earned so far this season.
