Mike McEwen (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) won an all-Saskatchewan battle to stay in playoff contention. By: Cameron Sallaj There is still hope for the Mike McEwen rink which includes Colton Flasch and twins Kevin and Dan Marsh. Sitting 1-2 after Thursday, the team needed a win over Rylan Kleiter to even their record and stay in the mix. It was a single by the Brier silver medalists in the first end to open the scoring, which was matched by Kleiter in the second. The teams then blanked the third end before Kleiter took a steal in the fourth to move ahead. In five, McEwen scored the only multi-point end of the game to go ahead 3-2. The teams then traded singles through the rest of game, with McEwen's side counting one in an extra end to win by a narrow 5-4 margin. WATCH Draw 14: McEwen vs Kleiter Sitting 2-2, Team McEwen will have to wait for the final men's draw to see where they stand. Currently, the team holds the best shootout total of the 2-2 teams, meaning they have the highest chance of advancing directly to the knockout stage. The Rylan Kleiter rink, who won the Tour Challenge Tier 2 title last month, finished with an 0-4 record. However, the rink will play in the WFG Masters in the new year in Guelph thanks to their win. In other Draw 14 action, Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller stole three in the fifth end to thump Calgary's Brad Jacobs 8-3. The result put both teams at 3-1 and they are both through to Saturday's quarterfinals. Switzerland's Marco Hosli was also victorious, taking three in the seventh end en route to a 6-4 win over Duluth's John Shuster. Team Hosli, who has climbed to tenth in the world, is still in the mix at 2-2 while Shuster finishes 0-4. Scotland's Bruce Mouat continued to roll, however, not without some pushback from Winnipeg's Matt Dunstone. Trailing by one in the last end, the Scottish side counted four to win 8-5. Mouat is now 4-0 heading into playoff action while Dunstone sits 2-2. The Co-op Canadian Open continues Thursday with Draw 15 beginning at 4:00 PM Mountain Time.
