By: Cameron Sallaj At the first Grand Slam event in PEI, South Korea's Team Kim took the scenic route to reach the playoffs, coming through the C Bracket before losing to Rachel Homan in the quarterfinals. This week in Nisku though, the team have secured themselves a spot in the playoffs early with a convincing victory over Kerri Einarson in their game Friday morning. Starting with hammer, Team Kim came out firing, with skip Eun-jung drawing the four-foot on her final stone to put four points on the board. The teams then traded deuces through two and three with Kim holding a 6-2 lead. In four, a runback opportunity for a multiple score did not go Kerri Einarson's way as she instead cleared out her own stones, resulting in a steal of two for the Koreans. The Canadians were able to respond with two of their own in the fifth to bring the game within four. After a draw for one by Kim in the sixth, the Canadian rink conceded, with the Koreans clinching a playoff berth for a third straight Slam. WATCH Draw 13: Einarson vs Kim To start the week, Team Kim lost a tight 7-5 game against Team Isabella Wrana of Sweden, putting them at a disadvantage early. They then won their next three games, however, winning 6-5 over Team Momoha Tabata and 7-3 over Team Sayaka Yoshimura. Now 3-1, and with a strong last stone draw total, the team is one of the top seeds in the playoff round where they look to capture their first Slam title. For Team Einarson, the loss drops them down to 2-2 as they will have to wait to see if they will play another game. Currently, their draw to the button total is one of the worst in the group, putting their chances at advancing in jeopardy. In other games, Team Stefania Constantini also clinched qualification in a 7-4 decision over Team Xenia Schwaller. The Italian side broke a tied game with four in the sixth end to leap ahead. Constantini finished the round robin at 3-1 while Schwaller is now eliminated at 1-3. Boths Teams Selena Sturmay and Sayaka Yoshimura kept their respective playoff hopes alive with wins Friday morning. The Alberta rink bounced Team Chelsea Carey 8-1 while the Japanese won 7-4 over Team Momoha Tabata.
