The world champions (Photo: Anil Mungal/GSOC) will be the number one seeds when the women's quarterfinals begin Saturday in Nisku. By: Cameron Sallaj Rachel Homan and her championship squad of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew and Sarah Wilkes are continuing to thrive at the Co-op Canadian Open in Nisku, Alberta. The team, now 4-0, will be the number one seeds in the women's playoff round which begins Saturday. In their final round robin game, the team faced Isabella Wrana in the game which went the full distance. After winning the pre-game draw-to-the-button contest, Team Wrana (1-3) picked up one in the opening end, a score which was matched by Homan in the second. The Swedes then blanked the third end with Homan stealing one in the fourth end for her first lead. Into the second half, the teams continued to force each other to just one with the reigning Scotties champions leading 3-2 after six. Then in seven, a good end by Wrana gave her an opportunity to hit for three, however, she was only able to pick up two. This gave the Swedes a 4-3 lead coming home but with Homan holding last rock advantage. A perfect freeze on Homan's first rock of the eighth forced Wrana to reply with a freeze of her own. The stone did not curl enough though, giving Rachel Homan the opportunity to remove it to secure an extra end. Upon a measure, it was then confirmed that it was in fact two for Homan, giving them a tight 5-4 win at the Silent Ice Arena. WATCH Draw 15: Homan vs Wrana With the win, Team Homan is now 30-2 on the season, a record that is unmatched by any men's or women's team on the planet. As they move into the playoffs, the team is looking to pick up their fourth Canadian Open title to extend their record of the winningest women's team at the event. As Homan were the only women's team to go through the round robin unbeaten, they automatically secured the number one seed in the playoff round. The next four seeds were filled by teams who each finished 3-1: Stefania Constantini, Kim Eun-jung, Satsuki Fujisawa and Ha Seung-youn. Three tiebreakers will take place on the women's side of the draw as six teams finished with 2-2 records. In the first, Team Selena Sturmay, who finished with the best shootout total, faces Team Kerri Einarson. Team Chelsea Carey will also take on Team Kaitlyn Lawes (Selena Njegovan) in an all-Manitoba affair while Team Sayaka Yoshimura battles Team Silvana Tirinzoni in an all-international matchup. Playoff Saturday at the Co-op Canadian Open begins with the tiebreaker round at 8:30 AM MT, followed by the women's and men's quarterfinals at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM MT respectively.
