Mike McEwen (Winnipeg, MB) won 6-2 over Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, NOR) in the Final of the Mercure Perth Masters, held January 5 - 8, 2012 in Perth, Scotland. To advance to the championship game, McEwen won 5-4 over Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) in the semifinals of the 2012 Mercure Perth Masters in Perth, Scotland; and won 5-1 over Niklas Edin (Karlstad, SWE) in the quarterfinals. of the 2012 Mercure Perth Masters in Perth, Scotland;
 
McEwen finished 5-1 in the 32-team qualifying round. . In their opening game, McEwen defeated Martins Truskans (Riga, LAT) 7-3, then won 7-6 against Scotland's Ally Fraser. McEwen went on to lose 6-3 against Claudio Pescia (St. Gallen, SUI). McEwen responded with a 7-2 win over Switzerland's Pascal Hess. McEwen won 8-2 against Scotland's Sandy Reid, then won 7-1 against Tom Brewster (Aberdeen, SCO) in their final qualifying round match.
 
For winning the Mercure Perth Masters Championship title, McEwen earned 22.800 world rankings points along with the $9,469CDN first prize cheque, remaining in 1st place overall on the World Ranking Standings with a net gain of 11.495 after improving upon their best so far this season. McEwen ranks 1st overall on the Year-to-Date rankings with 230.510 points earned so far this season.
