Joanne Courtney & Benjamin Hebert
Both are notorious on-ice jitterbugs, Courtney always makes her way to the rings as a sort of 3rd voice and timing mechanism if Rachel & Emma take more than 15 seconds on any particular shot. She's also seen recklessly running up and down the ice, crossing the ice on occasion when the game is in progress, particularly when the other team's shooting or deliberating.
Everyone knows what Hebert is like.
Then they will both have to learn to adjust...

What jumped out to me about the new guidelines is the possible advantage provided to teams which may have one or more truly outstanding sweepers.
Using Bottcher's team as an example, I can see Thiessen or Martin, after sweeping each other's rocks each being assigned to the remaining rocks from Moulding and Bottcher on a more or less ad hoc basis depending on the circumstances. In other words, Moulding's sweeping days are prolly over.
On the women's side, not that Wilkes is anything less than an excellent sweeper herself, I anticipate that Courtney, perhaps the best in Canada, will sweep one of Wilkes' stones, one of Miskew's stones and definitely both of Homan's stones, every end. Will following this strategy of having her next to the rock as much as possible pay dividends? You betcha!

One sweeper
Maybe this is more of a club curling thought but...wouldn't teams prefer to have the one sweeper on the in turn side of the rock? Do the top sweepers have a stronger side?

My concern would be how many clubs will be able to open. It costs the same to have a 6 sheet club as it does to have 1/2 at 3 sheet club to operate. If members are used to 3 nights and 2=3 days a week, will they sign up and pay for 1/2 the time? Will smaller clubs even open? Maybe the govt can offer a 1 or even 2 year deal where memberships are tax deductible like donation to Lions club or rotary Club etc.. Invest in the community.

Good points. We lost 25% of our dues this year. I can see people not joining if games are only 6 ends and you only sweep 1/2 the time. Tough decisions for any board of directors.

I've had a few good ideas over the years. Just ask me.
My wife.... Says not so many......Aaah used to it. Contact minister of sport, local mp''s ,local mla's put pressure on all to try and keep the clubs open and viable.. Most clubs will be unable to survive. Millions from govt to small business, even .more to big business, Even more to billion dollar corps. Invest local.
Remember that's who votes!

Now that Curling Canada has published guidelines to help Canadian clubs cope during this pandemic, hopefully they are in the midst of preparing presentation submissions to the federal government requesting relief for curling clubs while $$$$ are still available, funds which will not simply provide "relief" but actual club "survival".
Would not be in favour of requesting the CRA to consider making tax deductible deals to curlers across Canada. That would probably be at best a non-starter. Better to go the traditional route and have the government Enable our curling clubs to offer reduced annual dues, fees etc., thereby providing an incentive for curlers to join.

Curling Canada Waiver
Has anyone carefully read that waiver that Curling Canada has provided for clubs to use as a template? I can't imagine that anyone who has looked at it closely would ever consider signing it. I understand that sporting groups and clubs need a waiver related to the acceptance of risk associated with the physical activities that participants may engage in. But this goes much, much, further. You basically have to agree that you hold the club, the provincial authority and the national authority blameless for anything that happens at the club, and you agree that you will have no right to sue anyone. The waiver is so broad that you could walk into the club, sit down and have the building collapse on your head and you would have no legal recourse. But the guy delivering potato chips or beer doesn't have to sign, so he has more rights than the members. You actually would have more legal rights in any building in the country than your own club. It all makes no sense. Some clubs are making even social members with no playing rights sign the waiver. A waiver is fine, it just needs to be restricted to the playing and/or instruction of the sport itself.

The last concern of anybody joining a Canadian curling club should have is the possibility that the roof will fall in.
Wouldn't it be much more troubling to learn that tRump has been invited to throw out the 1st rock at your club?

Read article today where a couple of tour guys say the one sweeper covid rule will be "just absolutely ridiculous" (BennyH) and "I would sooner not play" (Dunstone).
Is it just me or are the pro curlers becoming divas? If the ice ain't perfect, whine time. If the rocks are mismatched, boo hoo.
How about you adapt? There was a junior spiel in Morris a couple weeks back and the organizer said the kids had no problems and were even excited about trying out different approaches on how to deal with it.
