Nice effort by Team Fleury. I was just thinking, a Scotties without Jennifer Jones would seem strange.

Did anyone see the laser focus on Jones' team at the end of that game? Last end each player delivered and that means trouble for the rest of the field.

They wouldn’t switch those games up would they? Those are an exceptional way to get started. I just get the ESPN simulcast but they seem to do a pretty bang up job at TSN.
Being pretty new here I’m a bit taken aback by the relative dislike of Jones. Maybe just tired of seeing the same faces? Is it the same way with Glenn Howard in a few weeks or has he been out of the picture enough that it’s a sentimental thing?
Even though she is likely past her absolute prime, and even if she over thinks stuff, she sure seems to see the game at a level not many others do, and the team works so well together that they make lemonade out of lemons more than any team I’ve seen.
Sure seemed last night that there were 5-10 shots that would have been trash out of the shooters hands, but the experience and skill of Jones and Lawes sure called lines or switched gears on the fly and turned them into decent shots. With the obvious exception of the straight whiff in one, I was impressed how many times they got an okay result out of a less than that shot.
At this level everyone can Use what’s in the house to make a five star dinner, but Jones’ ability to make something palatable out of expired meat in the garage seems to set her apart
That’s an offensively embarrassing analogy but I’m running with it.

for the couple of you guessing what games they are showing.....go to TSN curling page, down the right hand side it tells you who they are showing.
(which I am sure you already knew)

2020 Scotties Page Playoff Teams
- Carey
- Einarson
- Homan *
- McCarville
* Homan & Co. continue to be the heavy chalk in Vegas with a 40% probability of winning the whole enchilada. None of the other three exceeds 20%.

Stern just defeated Tirinzoni (SUI). I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing if you're Canada at the worlds.

“Routine?!” Carey had won four straight against McCarville. Take away the two lopsided round-robin games in the ‘17 Scotties, and Carey’s overall record against McCarville would be very strong.

The commentators have trouble focusing on the game. Their chat talking about golf and football how much knowledge they have, are sure irritating. They seem to have become obsessed with their own importance and support each other’s pronouncements.

was hoping for a tighter game.
Jen has missed a few, but on the other hand a couple of ends, she hasn't had much of a shot to try.
Must be so frustrating for Jen, no one can deny she is a better curler than what she is showing tonight.
I guessing no one will go through undefeated.

Totally agree. BOTH tsn and sportsnet announcers should heed to the "less is more." Shut up and let us listen to the players. None of you have been relevant in curling for at least 20 years......Or more. It's even worse when they try to talk over each other, so their voice is heard......Russ Mike Joan. Cheryl and Kevin not as bad.

I've said this here before and it's more than appropriate here today. The Jones drinking game. Wait for the next Jones telecast and take a drink every time she says sorry. Bad call.
Bad line call
Bad sweep call. Etc etc. Nobody left standing. By the 7th end.
Sponsored by nine locks brewery dirty blonde. Google it.

In defense of Vic and Russ....
The game was over and they still had to fill two hours of air.

Seemed to me that Jones was letting Kaitlyn make the line calls tonight whilst Kaitlyn was in the house. About time for that. Also, Jones seems to say "Sorry" a lot. I dont' think I've observed that with other curlers.

This morning looks like the worst slate of games in the history of the tournament. I can see why organizers tried to bury these games in the Sunday morning time slot:
1. MB vs. NU (MB favoured by 6.5 points)
2. ON vs. NL (ON favoured by 5.5 points)
3. AB vs. QC (AB favoured by 4.5 points)
4. WC vs. YT (WC favoured by 6.5 points)
I know the argument for having representation across the country, but the teams representing NU, QC, YT, and NL are not good enough to be here. It's uncomfortable to watch because the outcome is inevitable and the commentary ends up being more patronizing than anything else. Also, it messes up the standings, with records against these less established teams carrying forward to the final group.
It's time to drop the idea that we need three teams from the territories. Even just one team from NU, NT, and YT combined is over-representation based on population (123,000 people combined).

"showed tremendous sportsmanship in putting down the legendary Jones tonite"
Thanks for pointing out this outstanding consideration shown, that I totally missed, how magnanimous of her. ML continues to find more and more superlative ways of fawning over Rachel .

The last thing anyone of us in Ontario wants is ML fawning over Team Homan. We all know that if and when Team Homan begins any sort of decline this ML will jump all over them. Any old way, good win tonight. Great start Team Homan.

Other than allocating the WC winner to pool "B', does anybody know how Curling Canada decided which provinces would be placed in "A" or "B" ?
That is, what criteria was used to establish perhaps the most lopsided opening draw in Scotties' history?

I think it's based on ctrs standing.
Pool A is team ranked 1 4 5 8 9 12 13 16
Pool B 2 3 6 7 10 11 14 15
Hard to place some of the teams as many ranked with few or no points

In defence of Jones, her father and long time coach/friend died this past year. You have to think that could be affecting her. But there were some silly mistakes last night. Maybe time for Kaitlyn to throw last rocks with Jones calling the game.

Sweeting having a hog line violation in the 10th end against Nunavut is such a classic Sweeting move. I know she's been on the big stage for a while and is an overall good player, but she seems to make mistakes in big moments again and again. To her credit, she did make a nice double afterward to save the day.
