something i just realized though. with mixed worlds announced to be in scotland im not sure how kerri will be able to go. there's a 10 day quarantine for arrivals in the UK. womens worlds end on the 9th. the mixed doubles worlds start on the 17th. she cant possibly meet the quarantine period. unless there's an exempt..

ML has someone put something in your juice? Shannon curls with Keri. But she couldn’t spare as spares aren’t allowed at the worlds. A number of other ladies are in the same situation like Tabitha Petersen of the US. I believe they are making a bubble situation for the teams like they are in Calgary with different quarantine requirements for the curlers.

No offense to Heather Nedohin. She did an admirable job as Einarson's sherpa at STOH but given Brad's relationship with Kerri forged in steel during the MD championships I'd select Goosh.
Now, the thing is inside the bubble and that would mean Goo having to remain in Calgary or forego business opportunities on the rock. Plus, Goo's fee would have to be negotiated or does Curl Canada pay all coach expenses (travel, hotel, food, taxis, etc.)?
Goo could also help Kerri decide on who to offer the coveted 5th player to. Given the fact Team Einarson is a team of skips, the gradient might be to find someone versatile enough to play 3rd, 2nd or lead.
To me the usual suspects =
- Joanne Courtney
- Kaitlyn Lawes
- Laura Walker
- Joss Peterman
If I was resigned to move the other players up and not worry about skip or 3rd services, I would seriously consider Lisa Weagle or Dawn McEwen. Moreso Weagle as Dawn has been inactive due to circumstances beyond her control . . . ! ! !
A G A I N.....they have a 5th player and coach already. Who are you, Curling Canada? Why screw it up bringing in fantasy players that are by now sick of the bubble?
What is wrong with you? Keep the team chemistry. If you think Brad can help, bring him in face time before and after the games to discuss strategy and results the team and coach to offer help and suggestions!
FYI, this game isn't over yet.

This was discussed on twitter. Supposedly there is an exemption for "elite sportspeople".
https://twitter.com/curlinggeek/sta...768669230829568
In any case, Einarson won't be the only one. There's at least 3 other women in the same circumstance (Marie Turmann, Jennifer Dodds, Tabitha Peterson).

Bubbly? No he’s going back to the rock. However Keri just missed her shot...so we’ll see if Brad will even be talking to her after this game.

Tonight, the more experienced team held court. The youngens will be back, great team. Good luck at worlds and qualify for the Olympics for Canada.

With all the crazy speculations you guys have brought up, I think probably the one that actually has precedence and has some chance of happening, is for Sahaidak/Lott to be Team Canada for Worlds anyways.
If you recall, in 2016, Peterman/Gallant won the final against Crocker/Walker. Both Gallant and Walker committed to playing the slams with Team Gushue, however, so the 3rd place team went as Team Canada to the Worlds (Kasner/Kalthoff).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTcTMD3ML-I
I could see the same potentially happening for Sahaidak/Lott.

It's amazing how success breeds the confidence that allows a player to get to a whole nother level.
Einarson was a tremendous curler then last year she broke through and won Canada. Now this year, without even playing, she has become a monster, making every shot and just oozing confidence.
Was also great to see her and Gushue who are pretty buttoned down skips with their regular teams really seeming to enjoy the game all week. Full value for the championship.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Einarson has only competed outside of Canada once, in 2019 Arctic Cup (Russia).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpTuYcT1g-Y&t=41s
I believe she brought her two daughters and Sweeting brought her son, because I seem to remember seeing a photo of the team and the 3 kids with snow and mountain landscape.
Am I correct?
// CORRECTION: I'm pretty sure Einarson/Sweeting did not bring their kids to Russia. The photo I'm thinking of is from Banff when they played in 2019 All-Stars Skins.

When the world ended, Tabitha Peterson was on some kind of roll, essentially removing Sinclair from the picture and sending her back to Charlotte or Anchorage or Toronto or wherever she is these days, and then stealing Nina Roth’s Team and kicking her to third.
I’m interested to see if she has improved since then or regressed. She sure was on a run.

.
Peterson did not steal Roth's team. Tabitha moved up to skip because Roth did not play due to pregnancy. Then Peterson played so well that USA Curling kept her at skip when Roth came back to play.

I somehow found a video from the 2017 championship. I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but it's quite interesting to notice differences.
https://www.curling.ca/scoreboard/#!/competitions/2373
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vas...Am893MpLZj66-hW
1. They used to transport the prepositioned stones back and forth/up and down the ice between each end! What a waste of time! (Unless you enjoy chatting it up with your opposition!)
2. Mark Dacey threw 1&5 for whatever reason.
3. Format allowed 3 rounds of tiebreakers! One team played 4 games in one day! And won all of them!
4. Up to 8 sheets in use simultaneously per draw!
Anyway, if anyone can help me find more videos from 2017, that would be great!

In the early days of MD a few men threw 1 and 5. Guess they thought their ability to throw up weight was better than the "female" could do. Too funny right?

2013 & 2015 World Champions from HUN, Palancsa/Kiss, won with male throws 1&5. Some time in 2019, they seems to have switched it up, and now the female throws 1&5. I'd love to hear why.

And I just learned that Colin Hodgson is colorblind, and has a hard time differentiating even red and yellow rocks. For some reason this is the first time I've heard of this.
https://www.pressreader.com/canada/...284013303581448
quote: Alberta junior men’s skip sees past colour-blindness
Colin Hodgson discovered early on that he would be doing his best work with either a curling rock or a baseball in his hand, but not a crayon.
As an elementary school student, the 20-year-old Airdrie resident, who’ll lead his Calgary-based team into the M and M Meat Shops Canadian junior curling championships beginning Saturday at the North Hill and Glencoe clubs, always had troubles with projects that required artwork.
“I got all my assignments back with title pages and I got one or zero out of five on all of them, because I couldn’t tell the colours,” recalled Hodgson, who’ll be backed up in the nationals by third Michael Ng, second Parker Konschuh and lead Derek Clark. “I would take a brown crayon and think it was green.”
Eventually, he was diagnosed with a form of colour-blindness called dichromasy, which hampers his ability to see the full spectrum of colours, and it means that at a distance, colours tend to blend together.
That can be a hindrance for a curler sitting in the hack, staring down the sheet at a house full of rocks and trying to figure whose are whose.
Fortunately, Hodgson, an accomplished baseball player in the summer who plays at the senior AAA level in Red Deer, was blessed with the ability to memorize rock placements and see them in his mind even while at the other end of the sheet — an ability that failed him just once, that he can remember.
“The last time I can remember was at the Canada Games (in 2007 in Whitehorse), when we were on TSN of all things, and I made a really stupid comment,” recalled Hodgson. “I think we were sitting three and I was like, ‘Why don’t we just hit and roll to the pin?’ But the other team didn’t have any rocks in the house. Yelling that down (to Joel Peterman) seemed a little odd. He was like, ‘Colin, that’s our rock. You’re colour blind.’ It was a little embarrassing.”

Watching mixed doubles has made me more and more aware that the person in charge of strategy on a team should be throwing 1 and 5 - and that’s more important than having a better hitter throwing 2-3-4.
