Thanks for sharing.
So suffice to say residency rules not applying to ‘pros’ if they want to go that route. I don’t think I mind any changes within this press release but will have to reread and process it all in time.

The best-of-3 Olympic trial final is the biggest change in my opinion. I didn't think Canada would ever do something like that, so I'm most pleasantly surprised by that part of the announcement.

I think these changes were well thought through and reflect what players and others have been saying.
But what about that last little tag: "Final decisions on what to name the pre-qualified teams at the National Championships will be made later this summer."
Does this mean they won't be Wild-Card,or will they be Non-Affiliated, or are they Pro-Circuit teams? What are they getting at here? Or will they get honourable place holder slot names - the Pickering slot,RIchardson, Schmirler or some non-Sask place holder named slots. Asking for a friend. I'd cheer for whomever curled in the Heather Houston slot. Great pre-fgz curling ambassador.

The pre-qualified teams are like "early birds" special, i.e. they qualified months before anyone else not Team Canada.
So I think it would be nice to name them after birds.
So, yeah, maybe Team Goose, Team Booby, and Team Chickadee, in that order (number of syllables signifies the CTRS rank).

You think your constant childish name calling of a poster makes you any better?

These changes don't even address the biggest issue many , even some players vouced. Timing . It's in the same spot it was

That’s what hit me, too, misty. I think it needs to be held much earlier. I wonder why they didn’t address that issue as I consider it a big one.

I dont know, I don't get it. Dropping to 8 and best of 3 final. How does that help anything
The timing was the big one. Like I said, even the players themselves spoke about

Many players discussed it but not consistently. It's possible the consensus wasn't for changing the time.

Obvious answer is that TSN demanded the timing to be such. They successfully demanded that the minimum number of ends in a Brier/Scotties final is 10 ends. Curling Canada already lost Tim Hortons as the title sponsor for the Trials. I don't think they have the leverage to dictate when the trials will be held. It was 100% TSN's preference, and TSN pays the bill, so Curling Canada obliges.

How many ends was the 2023 Scotties final?

Jones conceded in 9th down 6 points against Einarson. This violates the published policy of 10 end minimum.

"Curlers have to play 10 ends in playoff games at the Scotties and Brier."
You can look up the published media guides to confirm this policy.

Feel free to propose some other "early bird" team names.
How about Hawk, Eagle, Cardinal? That's also 1-2-3 syllables, and as far as I can tell, all 3 have been used as mainstream sport team names (Atlanta Hawks NBA, Philadelphia Eagles NFL, St. Louis Cardinals MLB).
I strongly feel that they shouldn't just be XYZ 1/2/3. They each should have their own unique names, with their own unique crests on their uniforms.
Right now there's no way to visually tell if a team is WC1 or WC3 (their uniforms both just say "WILD CARD"), and I think that's a missed opportunity to give these teams more identity and meaning.
If you don't like the "early birds" idea, we can stick with the wildcard theme with Ace of Spades, Two of Diamonds, and Three of Clubs. Combined with the provincial Hearts, that would complete the whole suit on the deck of cards.

You sound like you’re in middle school. How hard is it to disagree with a poster’s ideas without getting personal by name calling?
I read the TOS and nowhere does it say you have to curl or be Canadian to have opinions and ideas.

The nice thing about Ace of Spades/Two of Diamonds/Three of Clubs is that it suggests that we're not going to have any more teams in this category, unless we start including Joker or something.
There are many problems with Wildcard 1/2/3, one of which is that it can easily be expanded to 4/5/6, which I'm sure will freak some people out.
I suppose you can also expand the early birds too, but it becomes harder and harder to find bird names with 4+ syllables, and it quickly becomes impractically long, so I still think the early birds is also a viable idea.

You are correct about the above, however, this idiot takes great delight in pissing off us Canadians at every opportunity possible and my bad for taking the bait. His posts above about birds names is a good example..If you accept his gibberish as intelligent Curling chat well then I suppose you and I will never be on the same page either.

Atlanta Hawks, Philadephia Eagles, and St. Louis Cardinals are real professional sports teams, all named after birds.
Goose-Booby-Chickadee weren't inspired by real team names. I was just looking up bird names alphabetically and found Booby and Chickadee for 2 and 3-syllables (also bonus for starting with letters B and C).
Goose is obviously inspired by Canadian Geese, probably the most famous of all Canadian birds.

That Curling Show had a big discussion on these changes, including Q&A with David Murdoch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47bdLrQG0-Y&t=9m45s
* David Murdoch is balancing interests from various stakeholders, and that includes respecting the guardrails of residency rules. Timing of trial is not easy to change. Goal for 2026 is for Canada to medal in all 5 disciplines.
* Mike Harris says the only stakeholders that matter are the athletes
* Mike Harris, Joanne Courtney, and Kaitlyn Lawes believe Curling Canada should not disallow players from participating in both mixed doubles & men's/women's in the same Olympics
* Everyone agrees mixed doubles in Canada is still on the backburner for whatever reason
