For newer fans of Sahaidak/Lott, and for older fans who wants to reminisce, they won the (now defunct) Curling World Cup 3rd Leg (Sweden) as Team Canada.

Fantastic last rock draw by sahaidak. Hopefully they can knock off gushue/einarson next. With Epping out I'm rooting for them to win it all

They ate a very, very good team that perhaps not a lot of people know about simply because there's no big name there. They've been so consistent at this event and as a pair. Would be nice to see them finally win this. And yeah, I'd say that even if Epping/weagle were still 8n this

I was wondering if there is a minimum number of ends the teams are required or contractually obligated to play. Case in point, Jones/Laing trailing by a converted touchdown and a field goal after three ends against very good competition. Why continue?

Amen. That was the best clutch shot I've seen all year. Absolutely zero margin for error, game on line and nailed it.

Never say never. The rock has to stop somewhere. Sometimes it stops where you want it to.

JJ looks absolutely infuriated, darts coming out of her eyes, smoke from her ears as her combo goes down 10-0 after 3 ends to provincial nemesis Kerri Einarson. Further compounded by TSN switching off Jones (she should be thankful) to a more competitive game!
Looks like the joy ride ends this afternoon for Lisa Weagle & Epping. Walker/Muyres just too much power, too many shots!
What happened in that game? I was at work but shocked when I saw the score.

Jones last shot % was 29
Einarson was 100
Pretty much sums it up.

I just realized that, while yes their jerseys said "Canada", and they had "O Canada" national anthem playing at the medal ceremony, Sahaidak/Lott did not have the Maple Leaf on their backs, literally speaking (i.e. that space is just blank, for whatever reason).
People always say that the Maple Leaf on your back can be such heavy burden sometimes. (Well, except Amy Nixon "The Maple Leaf is super easy to wear!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFMlyzogKWY&t=5m58s -- probably my personal favorite scrum moment in curling).
Feel free to prove me wrong, but I think Sahaidak/Lott had never literally worn the Maple Leaf on their backs in an international competition.

How about twice. Lott with Team Dunstone junior worlds 2013 and 2016, alternate in 2015 for Calvert so technically 3 times

A couple of things: (i) that's Lott, not Sahaidak/Lott the mixed doubles pair as a team, and (ii) are you 100% sure that Lott LITERALLY had the Maple Leaf on his back in those competitions?
I'm not saying you're wrong. He probably did. I just want to see pictures/videos to get the satisfaction.
//edit: yep, he did at least in 2016. The Maple Leaf is more on his side, kind of half in the front and half on his back, but I'll let it slide. I'm satisfied.

I could be wrong in this (feel free to prove me wrong!), but I think that expression is unique to Canadians.
https://olympic.ca/2017/07/01/team-...the-maple-leaf/
Team Canada talks: What it means to wear the maple leaf
In other words, Canadians often say things like "wearing the Maple Leaf on one's back", but Americans never say "wearing the Stars and Stripes on one's back". They just say "being Team USA", or "representing the country", or some generic boring things like that.
I've also heard, mostly from Chelsea Carey, how proud she was to finally "wear the buffalo on her back" after winning MB. She was very clear in saying that the letters "MB" (i.e. the sleeveless shirt) was less meaningful than the actual crest of buffalo/bison/whatever (i.e. the full-sleeved zipper jacket, which for her came separately after the sleeveless shirt).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giciuYEmleQ&t=2h29m5s
http://www.themanitoban.com/2014/01...-buffalo/18414/
Monkey off, buffalo on - After years of competing under the shadow of Jennifer Jones, and losing two previous women’s provincial curling finals, Chelsea Carey’s team finally got to wear the buffalo on their backs.
//update: HAHAHA even Weagle got sucked in to this kind of language!
https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/s...-573865422.html
"I always thought I'd be an Ontario rep for life but to have the opportunity to represent Manitoba, to wear the buffalo, to play out of a province with such an amazing curling history, is a special experience. And to do it with Team Jones is something I'm really grateful for."

Agree about the convoluted format. This last draw seemed anti-climatic after some of the teams just played two elimination games in a row. After a full pool round robin and a qualification round, there should be enough data (won-loss records and LSD) to seed. Better yet, scrap the Page playoff and go straight to semis and finals to save two draws.
If Curling Canada is adamant about having a bronze medalist and don't want the bronze medal game to steal the thunder of the gold medal game (one of the strengths of the Page playoff), they can start the bronze game an hour earlier.

I'm correcting myself. American athletes don't generally say "wearing the Stars and Stripes", but occasionally they do say "wearing the red, white and blue".
I wonder what other flags have this kind of language usage in sports. Do people from Quebec say it about the Fleurdelisé?
Do the Swedes take pride in wearing the three crowns (tre kronor)? (Not the flag, but national emblem).
I tried to search for some obvious examples, but "wearing the Union Jack" came up with Spice Girls.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Jack_dress
"The dress held the Guinness World Record for the most expensive piece of popstar clothing dealt at auction."
