Harnden and Geoff Walker, came into the HearingLife Tour Challenge after reaching the final of last weekend's PointsBet Invitational. As Canada's top men's teams ease into the season focusing more on practice and less on competition to start the season, the rust can show at times as teams like Gushue compete against teams well into their second month of competition. Gushue opened their season four weeks ago at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard, with the HearingLife Tour Challenge being their third competition of the season. In comparison, Brunner and his team are playing their fifth event, which started seven weeks ago at the Baden Masters in Switzerland. Brunner, backed by Anthony Petoud, Romano Keller-Meier and Andreas Gerlach, started with a hammer, winning the pre-game draw shot competition for the advantage. Brunner scored a single in the first end, and Gushue scored two points in the second end. The pattern repeated, with Gushue taking a 4-2 lead into the game's halfway point. Brunner evened the score with two points in the fifth end, with Gushue blanking the sixth end. The teams maintain pace with each other, Gushue scoring two in the seventh end, then Brunner scoring two in the eighth end to force an extra end. Gushue plays their round two game in the A-event bracket against Sweden's Niklas Edin, after they won 7-5 over Winnipeg's Reid Carruthers earlier on Tuesday.
