By Meredith McCullum Allyson MacNutt - with third Maria Fitzgerald, second Alison Umlah and lead Grace McCusker - from Halifax, Nova Scotia came into the PointsBet Invitational ranked 14th, thanks to their win at Canadian Junior Nationals earlier this year. MacNutt faced Manitoba's Kerri Einarson in the Sweep 16, who came into the tournament ranked third. The team includes spare Laura Walker, in for the event with their second Shannon Birchard currently recovering from injury. The teams exchanged singles through the first three ends, putting Einarson up 2-1. In the fourth, MacNutt broke through with a huge three points to take a 4-2 lead. Einarson bounced back in the fifth end with a draw to the eight-foot to score three and regain the lead 5-4, half way through the game. In the sixth end MacNutt gave up a steal of one, but they would regroup and score a point in the seventh to even the game 6-6. In the eighth end, Einarson had a hit for a single but rolled out, resulting in a steal for MacNutt who would take a 7-6 advantage with two ends left to play. Einarson blanked the ninth end to give herself the hammer in the all important final end. In the tenth end, Allyson MacNutt made a beautiful shot with her last rock, drawing through a port to the button to sit shot and force Einarson leaving Einarson limited options to score. Kerri Einarson threw a runback and made contact with the rocks in the four-foot, but it was MacNutt who was left shot rock in the end and secured the win 8-6.
