Einarson Opens Season at Saville
4-Time Scotties Champion Kerri Einarson starts Friday against Edmonton's Gracelyn Richards. As questions still linger on the status of Briane Harris, Einarson enters the Saville Shootout in Edmonton with Val Sweeting, Shannon Birchard and Krysten Karwacki registered for the open event of the season. Harris, as reported in March was appealing her positive test for Ligandrol with The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. "As best as can be determined at this time, Ms. Harris was unknowingly exposed to the banned substance through bodily contact," said Harris's lawyer, Amanda Fowler, in a statement. "In the circumstances, Ms. Harris is therefore keen to clear her name and will seek to expedite any process of mechanism to facilitate such vindication." In January 2020, canoe sprint athlete Laurence Vincent Lapointe of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, successfully challenged her positive test by making her case that she had unknowingly taken the substance through third-party contamination. As there has been no update on the appeal, Einarson plays the waiting game like the rest of us. Einarson's game against Richards takes place at 8:30 am Mountain Time as the team gets underway on the opening draw. Einarson will play five games in their pool of 5 teams, includling a single cross-over game against Pool B. Einarson takes on Corryn Brown of Kamloops at 5 pm MT on Friday, following up with one game Saturday at 3 pm against Vernon's Taylor Reese-Hansen. Einarson wraps up round-robin play with two games on Sunday, facing Myla Plett of Edmonton at 9 am and Selena Sturmay at 7 pm. Monday's Championship final takes place at 3 pm MT. All games will be streamed though CurlingZone's YouTube channel. www.youtube.com/CurlingZone Over the summer, Einarson joined Kevin Koe, Jamie Koe, Kerry Galusha, Al Hackner, Mike McCarville, Carolyn McRorie, Patty Wallingham, Joe Wallingham, and Colin Hodgson compete in an historic all indigenous curling game, live from the Cree Nation of Chisasibi in Northern Quebec. |
